Stacey Schmidt is the head of Divorce and Family law team at Pace & Hughes, after the firm as an associate attorney in 2002. She received her Juris Doctorate degree in 1992 from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in 1989 from Brigham Young University.
Stacey has developed extensive litigation experience in family and domestic law and alternative dispute resolution which she now brings to bear at Pace & Hughes. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for 8 years in public interest law with Utah Legal Services, where she specialized in family law assisting those in domestic violence situations. Stacey was the managing attorney over the state-wide domestic unit at Utah Legal Services. Her tenure there required Stacey to manage a team of 9 attorneys and accompanying staff in Courts across Utah. This experience has given Stacey a visible presence in many jurisdictions and has allowed her to protect her clients interests in high conflict cases of divorce, custody, financial property settlements, alimony and domestic violence.
Stacey served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Utah County Food & Care Coalition, which focused on feeding, clothing, housing and educating those individuals and families in poverty situations. She has also been a member of the Utah Domestic Violence Counsel, whose purpose is reducing domestic violence in our communities and state.
When she's not working, Stacey loves to spend time with her family, skiing, playing sports and coaching her sons. Stacey grew up in Alberta, Canada and comes from a rich native heritage and legal background. Her great-grandfather was the first Native Senator in Canada and her Father is a retired national cowboy champion who is now practicing law in Canada.
